PRP Injections

What is PRP Therapy?

PRP, short for platelet-rich plasma, is a natural component derived from the human blood. It has a high concentration of growth factors, giving it the ability to encourage bodily healing and growth. Growth factors are the components responsible for your body’s natural healing processes. When you’re bruised or injured, the growth factors rush to the injured site to promote healing.

PRP therapy is a procedure wherein a small sample of your blood is spun in a centrifuge to isolate the PRPs and growth factors. The PRP solution is drawn into injections and delivered into the targeted areas of your body. PRP Injections can be used for cosmetic and therapeutic purposes, i.e., they can improve your cosmetic appearance and minimize the pain from injuries and chronic conditions.

PRP Injections for Facial Rejuvenation

PRP Injections are strategically delivered into facial regions with signs of aging, sun damage, acne scars, and other textural irregularities. The growth factors in the PRP solution activate your body’s healing activities, concentrating them on the targeted injection sites. Your body responds by speeding up cellular regeneration and collagen production. Over time, the damaged skin tissues are replaced with healthier skin tissues, and the replenished collagen reserves make your skin look taut, firm, and youthful.

PRP Injections for Pain & Injuries

PRP injections also heal chronic injuries and alleviate chronic pain. As mentioned previously, platelet-rich plasmas contain numerous growth factors and proteins that facilitate wound healing and repairs. When injected into the site causing pain and discomfort, the PRPs heal the damaged tissues, joints, tendons, nerves, and muscles to alleviate pain and discomfort. As such, PRP Injections can provide long-term relief from chronic pain by encouraging your body to heal its damaged components.

You’re a Candidate for PRP Injections if You…

  • Have cosmetic concerns you want to reverse, such as acne scars, sun damage, textural irregularities, pigmentation problems, etc.
  • Experience chronic pain and injuries, such as tennis elbow, achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, rotator cuff tears, hamstring injuries, arthritic injuries, etc.
  • Are in generally good physical and mental health with no underlying conditions that preclude the treatment, such as Parkinson’s Disease, blood-borne diseases, etc.

Dr. Bonni’s PRP Injections Procedure

Dr. Aram Bonni provides an extremely comfortable and relaxing platelet-rich therapy procedure. He examines your facial skin or the injured areas (depending on your concerns), runs various physical tests and evaluations, reviews your medical history, and discusses your goals. Based on his thorough evaluation, he curates the ideal PRP injection treatment plan for you.

During the PRP therapy, Dr. Bonni draws a small sample of your blood via a syringe and spins it in a centrifuge to isolate the PRPs. Once the platelets are isolated, he cleans the treatment areas and applies a local anesthetic or numbing cream to ensure optimal comfort. Depending on whether you need PRP injections for cosmetic concerns or chronic pain, the doctor may or may not use fluoroscopic guidance for the treatment.

For cosmetic PRP Injections, the doctor will simply inject the PRPs into the targeted areas on your face. For therapeutic PRP injections, the doctor will use x-ray guidance to inject PRP into the damaged and traumatized areas within your body. Anxious patients can also ask for sedation to ensure optimal comfort. The procedure concludes within 30 minutes.

Recovering from Your PRP Injections

You may experience mild redness, swelling, and irritation around the injection sites for the first two days. PRP Injections are completely safe, and you won’t experience any major side effects or complications. You’ll notice the treatment results gradually over several weeks as your body heals the damaged tissues.
